Shirtless Presidents

Sometimes Cathy Horyn over at The New York Times covers stories on her blog that feel more like an inside joke than something we can all appreciate (though we do enjoy the fly-on-the-wall sensation of reading posts about her latest dinner with some fabulous group of designers in some tucked away Parisian bistro). But then sometimes she displays the same affection for lowbrow chatter that we all know and love. One such example can be found in her spotlighting a recent photo of Barack Obama vacationing in Hawaii with his family.

Though she gave her blessing to the President-elect's surfside look ("at least he did not opt for itty-bitty European briefs"), she was not as enthusiastic about the slideshow of presidents past in their respective bathing attire that the Huffington Post put together (probably as soon as the image of Obama on the beach hit the wires). And for good reason: We're not sure which pictures were more horrifying—a pale pink Bill Clinton amid the waves, or Ronald Reagan's bizarrely high-waisted tight white (white!) swimsuit. Nancy Reagan, on the other hand, if we may say, looks rather like a fox. Just putting that one out there. The proof is in the pictures: Click through them all for yourselves.
