It's a well-kept secret — okay, a very well-kept secret — that Fashion Week is not all about vapid gossip-mongering, fashion editors jostling for the best seat at the Zac Posen show, and stylists showing their killer instincts in the search for raw flesh to feed their empty souls. Nope. It's really about giving back. At least the group The Heart Truth, which raises awareness about the danger heart disease poses to women, has been trying to instill some sense of that since 2002 when it started the Red Dress Fashion Collection show at Fashion Week.
Always centered around National Wear Red Day, which is Friday Feb. 6 this year, the collection, featuring the red-dress designs of 20 superstar designers paired with 20 celebrity women, embodies the awareness movement's symbol: the red dress. This year's Fashion Week Show takes place on Feb. 13 and boasts returning designers such as Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Catherine Malandrino and Donna Karan. This year, appropriately red-hot designer Ashleigh Verrier joins them, creating her own one-of-a-kind dress. Verrier's dress will be worn by Natasha Henstridge.
After the show, some of the dresses will be auctioned off at Clothes Off Our Back to raise money for research into women's heart health issues. So you can bid on the dresses whether you want to help a good cause, really love one the designs, or are just a creepy perv who wants the dress Natasha Henstridge wore.
