You Better Watch Out: Santacon Set for This Weekend

If you wake up Saturday morning, look out your window and see a bunch of drunk Santa’s wandering the streets of New York City, don’t be alarmed. It’s just Santacon 2010.

SantaconNYC, which describes itself as “a non-denominational, non-commercial, non-political and non-sensical Santa Claus convention,” hosts Santacons all over the country, and there’s only one rule: make sure you wear a Santa suit.

Starting at 10 a.m. at a secret location somewhere in the city that will be announced over the Santacon twitter feed, the event's only cost of admission is two non-perishable food items for the New York Food bank to be dropped off at the first location. Just make sure you don’t call it a bar crawl. According to the Santacon website, “Every time you call Santacon a bar crawl, a sugarplum fairy dies.”

Last year, the sloshed Santas made their way through the city, starting off in Astoria and moving their way through Brooklyn, the Financial District, and finally Washington Square.

Santacon will take place on Saturday, December 11, at 10 a.m. For those interested in taking part in the Christmas cheer, follow go to twitter.com/santacon to find out the secret starting location.
