Tonight's Pick: Leah Siegel at Pete's Candy Store

The husky-throated singer-songwriter wows live

It's rare these days for live music to halt people in their tracks, but at a recent Leah Siegel show, audience members actually stopped texting. Such is the particular power of this local singer-songwriter. With a haunting voice that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck, she's perfect pre-Halloween fare - if you haven't had the chance to catch her live, tonight is the last date of her residency at Pete's Candy Store in Williamsburg. Her influences (Nina Simone, Roy Orbison, Jeff Buckley) have given her a real knack for melody, and her themes are dark and twisted in the best possible way - give her MySpace tunes a listen (don't miss the excellent cover of Tom Waits' eerie "Poor Edward") and pick up a copy of her excellent CD Little Mule. 10/27, 9:30PM, 709 Lorimer St., Williamsburg (718-302-3770); no cover.
