SummerStage Kicks Off Tonight With Jazz, Electronica

This summer New Yorkers in all five boroughs will be able to enjoy the city’s seasonal outdoor music, dance and theater program, SummerStage, without always having to trek to Central Park.

In its 25th year, SummerStage will offer over 100 performances in 16 parks across the metro area from June 1 to Aug. 29.

Jazz singer Melody Gardot and the New York Pops will kick things off in Central Park, while Jay Electronica will launch the festival in Brooklyn’s Red Hook Park at 7 p.m. today.

SummerStage will highlight the city’s many artistic movements with performances by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, salsa singer Frankie Negron and hip-hop group Public Enemy, among others, according to the City Parks Foundation.
