Even if Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate, there’ll be plenty of snow in Central Park this weekend – because the Olympic Regional Development Authority will be cranking it out for the Department of Parks’ annual Winter Jam NYC, which is just like a getaway to the slopes, only minus the air fares and $90 lift tickets. (They’ll even provide all the equipment, including snowshoes and skis). Some highlights we’re looking forward to:
-Burton and Head are sponsoring snowboarding and skiing lessons, with instructors teaching all day.
-Go cross-country skiing or snowshoeing across Lake Placid Snow Field (snowpeople-making also encouraged).
-For shredders, there’ll be the Switch Academy Rail Jam at the Bandshell. Pre-registration is closed, but the Parks Department encourages showing up for on-site sign-up.
-See a screening of “Red Bull Project X,” a short movie that documents Olympian Shaun White’s training on his secret half-pipe in Silverton, Colorado.
-Snack and sip on locally-produced goodies at the Pride of New York Winter Market.
