Holiday Cocktail Lounge Reopens, but Fate Uncertain

The East Village institution is back in business, but for how long?

We've been praying for a miracle for the Holiday, the classic East Village dive immortalized in the Bouncing Souls' song, since it shuttered its doors not long after New Year's Eve. We've been fervently hoping we wouldn't have to add the legendary watering hole to the R.I.P. List, our running tally of New York institutions that have closed (or are slated to close) in the current economic poopstorm. So we're cautiously optimistic about this Gothamist post flagging news that the lounge - which poured its first shot in 1965 - has reopened. Caveat: It's only pouring on Friday and Saturday nights until further notice, but we'll take what we can get. Let's hope Anthony Bourdain doesn't show up, or we'll know the fat lady's getting ready to sing.
