Veteran performer and headmistress of The New York School of Burlesque, Jo "Boobs" Weldon has taken her act from the stage to the page.
To celebrate the release of her new book, The Burlesque Handbook, Ms. Weldon is hosting a reading that is sure to be unlike any book-release-party you have ever attended.
Tonight at the Bowery Poetry Club, join NYSB graduates and members of the performance troupe Storybook Burlesque -- whose shows have tackled everything from the bible to the tabloids -- for a dramatic interpretation of their teacher and mentor's first literary endeavor.
Ms Weldon, acting as MC, will guide her former pupils through each chapter, which include the revolutionary nature of pasties, a dancer's relationship with her "fine feathered friend," (her fan of course), the importance of hair and makeup (because "you're never nude up there"), the role music plays in every successful seduction and finally "The Big Reveal: How to Get a Gimmick," as explained by Victoria Privates.
Jo and her gang of seductresses will be around after the show to sign copies of the book.
