Bedbugs Come to an Off-Broadway Theatre (Stage)

The Laurie Beechman Theatre might be the only place in New York advertising that it has Bedbugs. Or more accurately, “Bedbugs!!!”

According to the Wall Street Journal, in a one-night-only concert, composer Paul Leschen and lyricist Fred Sauter, will bring songs from their show “Bedbugs!!!” to the stage, including numbers such as “Don’t Let the Bedbugs Bite!” and “Bedbug Anthem.”

“We wrote the show and always kept in mind that we wanted to have a good time and we wanted the actors and the audience to have a good time,” he said to the Journal. “It never takes itself too seriously although it could be looked at as a serious show.”

While the show ran originally in 2008, but was forced to close due to the financial crisis and bad economy. However, bedbugs seem to have taken over the city in recent months, being found in establishments such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Waldorf-Astoria, striking interest in the show again.

"If people have experienced bedbugs they will get to watch as these bedbugs start taking over people's lives and then they will get their comeuppance," Mr. Leschen said.

"Oh, they get their comeuppance. It's totally cathartic to people," Mr. Sauter said. "It's totally devoted to those people."
