8/17: “Close Encounters” in Bryant Park

Plus Brendan Benson at Bowery and live retro burlesque

FAR OUT: This is your last chance to soak up free celluloid in Bryant Park – the Summer Film Festival wraps tonight with the sci-fi classic “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” Sing it with us: “Dee da dee da doooo.” Movie at dusk, lawn opens at 5PM.

MISS YOU: Hey, Brendan Benson, we know you’ve been busy palling around with Jack White in the Raconteurs, but could we get a new album from you maybe? It’s been like 10 years (okay, four). We’re starving for your indie-rock genius. It comes out on Tuesday? Great. See you tonight at Bowery Ballroom. 8PM.

TAKE IT ALL OFF: The weekend’s over, and the next one’s so far away. Console yourself with four acts of blissfully retro live striptease from the old and new guards of the NYC tassel-twirling scene at Public Assembly (the former Galapagos). Monday Night Burlesque starts at 8PM.
