12/30: Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Gingerbread…

…plus a theatrical tribute to Janis Joplin

BOOTY CALL: Shake what God gave you when Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings ignite Williamsburg’s Brooklyn Bowl – a much more intimate venue than their last, which was at the Nokia Times Square. Which means it'll get that much sweatier. If their spirit of throwbacky, no-vocals-barred funk doesn't move you, check your own pulse. 9PM.

GINGERMAN: Gingerbread house competitions usually smack of community center rec rooms and reindeer sweaters, but the Ginger Brew Ha-Ha Extravaganza at The Bell House is about as far from that scene as you can imagine – because of the live bands (Old Books, Kabona Zombies and a “secret headliner”), the dessert bar from Raspberry Bakeshop, and, well, the “brew” part. It’s still a competition, folks: Teams of up to 4 people will have one hour to create a gingerbread house; basic materials will be provided. FREE or $20 to enter gingerbread house construction competition. Doors at 6:30PM.

SOUNDS LIKE: It’s almost better than the real thing at (Le) Poisson Rouge tonight as three cut-above tribute bands take the stage: Fleetwood Maxx (no explanation needed), Damn the Torpedos (a tribute to Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers), and “Jody Joseph...A theatrical performance of Janis Joplin.” (We would have preferred Jackie Jorpjorp, but you can’t win ’em all). 7PM.
