12/13: Julianne Moore Talks, Coens on True Grit, Cheese=Sexy

What's on around town tonight

MOORE THE MERRIER: The bad news is there’s only one Meryl Streep in the world – the good news is, we also have Julianne Moore, an actor in the Streepian mold: She tacks from one interesting role to the next, making the whole no-good-roles-for-women thing pretty much moot. Moore comes to the TimesCenter’s TimesTalks to discuss her career, her creative process, and her most recent role, as a lesbian mom in the Oscar-baiting gem The Kids Are All Right. 6:30PM.

‘GRIT’ HAPPENS: Cult filmmakers APPENS: Joel and Ethan Coen come by the Apple Store in Soho to discuss True Grit (in theaters December 22; trailer here), their remake of the 1969 John Wayne classic-slash-adaptation of the Charles Portis novel. Early buzz on the film says they’ve paid loving homage to the western as a form and created a thoroughly entertaining movie—all that, and Jeff Bridges in an eyepatch. What’s not to love? 5:30PM.

CURD PLAY: Gooey, melty, triple crème, blue and stinky – we’re already fairly sold on the concept that cheese is among the most sensual foods, but we’ll happily spend an evening tasting and sipping as a reminder. At the Artisanal Premium Cheese Center, fromagère Erin Hedley introduces you to the world’s most sensual cheeses, all paired with wines, in one of the most delicious evenings you may spend all holiday season. Sexy Cheeses and Sumptuous Wines is at 6:30PM.
