U.S. T.&A.: History has been kind to Showgirls, one of the greatest guilty-pleasure movies of all time – and there’s something era-capturing about this 1995 film that follows the trials and tribulations of an ambitious Las Vegas dancer. See it on the big screen, if only for Elizabeth “Even ‘The Bell’ Can’t Save Me Now” Berkley’s stupefyingly overwrought performance (the scene where she flings the French fries: epic). It screens at midnight tonight and tomorrow as part of the IFC’s Paul Verhoeven retrospective Base Instincts: Verhoeven in the U.S.A. 12AM.

VAN ART: Nearly 35 years after they started out as a Cali garage band confusing audiences with their ska-inflected punk noodlings, Camper Van Beethoven is still funny, strange and irreverent – and thanks to the ’08 release of their hits compilation Popular Songs of Great Enduring Strength and Beauty, they’re seducing a whole new generation of fans.
