These Streets Were Made For Walking

NYC is ranked the third best walking city...

In New York City, walking is a way of life, and a new survey found that the Big Apple is one of the country’s most walker-friendly locales.

Prevention Magazine ranked New York City third in its ranking of the top 25 walking cities.  The annual survey with the American Podiatric Medical Association and Sperling’s Best Places finds that City residents log the fewest vehicle miles in the country.

Even with a comprehensive mass transit system, New Yorkers tend to walk – to work, on errands and for fitness.

Ranking number one in the survey was San Francisco, where the city government devotes 12 agencies to walking issues.  Number two was Boston, chosen for its infrastructure that encourages pedestrians.
