Goodbye Kim's, Hello Bargains

So long, Kim’s Video: The Christopher Street outpost of this beloved chainlet shutters at the end of June. Until then, stock up on rare DVDs at rock-bottom prices.

Ending months of speculation, Kim’s Video on Christopher Street will close its doors at the end of this month. Sad news indeed for film lovers – indeed, Kim’s was the go-to for many obscure and local gems that Netflix simply doesn’t stock (as pointed out in heated debate in the comments over here on Gothamist). As the Post notes, this leaves just one Kim’s Video location in the city, on First Avenue at St. Marks Place.

But! Kim’s misfortune is your lucky day, film nut: When we popped in, every DVD in the joint was on sale for pennies (okay, dollars – but not many). So if you’re after copy of Hated, the G.G. Allin documentary, the cult classic Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine, or a collection of Talking Heads videos recreated in Claymation made as an NYU film thesis, you know what to do.

And don’t forget, Kim's card holders: Your membership is good at the 17th century Jesuit monastery in Salemi, Sicily where a large portion of the video collection now lives.
