Free Wheels From the City

Don't have a bike, but itching for a spin in the sunshine? Thanks to a program from the Downtown Alliance, starting today, you can bike around New York City for free.

This is one of the best deals we've heard of in a while: The Alliance for Downtown New York is launching a program that'll let you rent a bicycle for up to two-and-a-half hours -- accessories included -- absolutely free.

Here's how it works: You reserve your bike online (using a credit card as a guarantee), then you head to South Street Seaport to pick it up. (They'll even throw in child seats, side wagons and helmets if you need them, says the Daily News.) When you're done, return your two-wheeler to one of four locations on the island.

Best part? Not having to haul your bike to your 4th-floor walkup studio and hang it from hooks on the ceiling. The Bike Around program runs through October; head here to sign up and reserve your wheels.
