Five Things: NYC Air Sex Championship

Here's some intel to get you prepped for the world finals on June 12

1. Air sex is just like air guitar, except instead of playing an imaginary guitar, contestants make sweet (or not-so-sweet) amour with an invisible partner. In front of an audience. With music. (May we suggest some Barry White?)

2. According to noted Air Sex historians Wikipedia, the sport was invented in Tokyo in 2006 by a group of bored men without girlfriends.

3. Anyone can enter! In the words of the organizers: just "come up on stage and show everyone how you do it. Or how you wish you could do it. Or how you once had it done to you, and oh my god was that a bad idea and while it's embarrassing to show that act to a room of strangers, you know that you need to do it now in order to make sure that no one else falls down the same rabbit hole." Got that?

4. Air Sex face-offs will be happening all over North America this summer, in 15 different cities, including Vancouver and Toronto. (Vancouver, we get -- but Toronto? Really? We have a new respect.)

5. The New York Air Sex finals take place at the Highline Ballroom on June 12. You have 11 days to buy a ticket to the event (they're $15) or a ticket out of town to get as far away from a roomful of air-humpers as possible (cost varies).
