Blight Christmas Movies

Just when you're staring your lousy travel plans in the face, fighting the bitter cold, rushing to do your part to boost holiday sales, or likely all three at once, across the pond, the Guardian lines up the five New York movie characters you would not want to be at Christmas.

The winners are:

"Stacks" Edwards (Samuel L Jackson) in "Goodfellas"

Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine) in "The Apartment"

Paul Allen (Jared Leto) in "American Psycho"

Louis Winthorpe III (Dan Aykroyd) in "Trading Places"

Harry (Joe Pesci) in "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York"

It'd be nice to repay the favor, but the only one who springs to mind is Cameron Diaz in "The Holiday," and her alternative was LA, and, well, at least she has snow and Jude Law there in merry old England. On the Guardian list you'd have to swap out Joe Pesci in "Home Alone 2" for Zooey Daschanel in "Elf" because she has to shower with Will Ferrell. But many of the picks on the UK list are there because they die horribly during Christmas—either by gunshot to the back of the head like Samuel L. Jackson, sleeping pills like Shirley MacLain, or a combination of ax hacking and Huey Lewis' "Hip to be Square" like Jared Leto (talk about indignity).
