If you're in need of some hot chocolate on a cold night, try a cup loaded with whipped cream at the Caffe Reggio on MacDougal Street in Grennwich Village.
The 90-year plus establishment claims to be the home of the original cappuccino, but hey, who needs to order what everyone else does!
The hot chocolate is made "from the finest imported cocoa" and it's steamed with milk. So, if you're looking for a sugary sweet chocolate syrupy fix, this ain't it. This is for a real hot chocolate lover who appreciates it straight, no sugar!
However, there is plenty of atmosphere to sweeten up the experience. Check out the huge espresso machine which dates back to the early 1900's and the artwork, some of which date back to the Renaissance.
Makes you feel as though you're in Europe without paying the airfare. My cup of cappuccino was 3-bucks, if you want it without the whipped cream--and it's the real deal--it's a little less. Caffee Reggio is open 24/7 from 9am to 2am. Oh, yes, if you really want sugar, you can add it!
