Rum Adventures; The Case Against Food, Inc.

TGIF! Enjoy that last Happy Meal of the week over these links:

1) The intrepid blogger at Alcademics went on an adventure to Guatemala to see Zacapa rum distilled at the source. The story involves helicopters, hand cut sugar cane, and native children, and it's only part one. Get away for a few moments without leaving your desk. (Alcademics)

2) The documentary Food Inc., about the seedy practices behind slaughterhouses, chicken farms, and corporate agriculture, is up for an Oscar and may very well win. But not if corn farmers have a say in it. According to ABC News, "The National Corn Growers Association, the industry's largest trade group, is encouraging corn farmers to get the word out in the media and on social networking sites like Facebook to rebut the documentary in the final days before the Oscars." Read more about the protesting farmers and the fight to keep the film away from more eyeballs, here. (ABC) Also, watch the trailer here.

3) And now, 15 fun facts about coffee (originally coffee was eaten combined with fat to form energy balls! The great coffee ban of 1675!), presented in the cutest way possible. (The Oatmeal)
