Hill's Ex-Aide Could Take Over

Gov. Paterson may tap upstater for Senate seat

New York Gov. David Paterson could nominate one of Hillary Clinton’s former aides from Buffalo for Senate, should Clinton become secretary of state as expected.

The ex-aide, Leecia Eve, daughter of longtime deputy Assembly Speaker Arthur Eve, would have the backing of Rep. Charles Rangel, a source close to Gov. Paterson told the Daily News.

Her name has surfaced in the last two days because the governor would like someone from upstate, the source said.

The list to replace Clinton's Senate seat includes frontrunner Rep. Nydia Velazquez, but also Rep. Brian Higgins, Rep. Kristen Gillbrand, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, Rep. Steven Israel and Rep. Caroline Maloney.
