Approximately 85% of so-called COVID-19 “long-haulers” have experienced four or more neurologic symptoms while contending with the long-term impacts of contracting the coronavirus, according to a new study by Northwestern Medicine.

Ann Wallace caught COVID-19 one year ago and never recovered. She is known as a long-hauler, one of a group of people who continue to suffer debilitating symptoms months — and for some, now a year — after contracting the virus. Wallace joined LX News to share her story.

As COVID-19 cases climb, so are the number of “long haul” patients whose physical and mental symptoms persist long after others recover. Research suggests as many as ten percent of coronavirus patients go on to become long haulers, with symptoms that continue for weeks or even months.
