Woman Arrested With Gun at Airport

The loaded handgun was found in luggage

A Texas woman was arrested after authorities found a 4-inch revolver in her checked baggage at MacArthur Airport, police said.

Suffolk County police said the loaded handgun was found in Vonda Collier’s luggage during a routine security check Sunday.

A Transportation Security Administration agent discovered the weapon in Collier’s bag at about 7:30 a.m.

Collier, an enlisted Army solider on leave, was located in the terminal and taken into custody. She was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The handgun was seized and will be processed for operability and ownership verification, police said.

Collier, 38, of San Antonio, had checked her baggage prior to a Southwest Airlines flight to Texas. She is being held overnight and will be arraigned Monday and First District Court in Central Islip.
