Road Construction Suspended in NYC Area to Ease Congestion During Penn Station Repairs

Road construction will be suspended near New York City to ease traffic congestion during Penn Station repairs, Gov. Cuomo announced Sunday.

All non-emergency work will be suspended from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. with all lanes open beginning Sunday night, he said.

On Monday, Amtrak plans to begin repairing tracks and switches at Penn Station that will limit service to the hub through Sept. 1. Extensive disruptions are expected for both New Jersey Transit and Long Island Rail Road commuters.

All tolls on major commuting crossings are also cashless. The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge became cashless this weekend.

"As New Yorkers adjust their plans, we are doing everything possible to ease the burden on commuters and travelers," Cuomo said in a statement.
