Man Charged for Smuggling 7,000 Bogus Erectile Dysfunction Pills

A man from Pakistan has been charged in a Texas fake drugs case involving more than 7,000 bogus erectile dysfunction pills.

Federal prosecutors in Houston say 45-year-old Mohammad Jamal Rashid faces a seven-count indictment charging conspiracy, trafficking in counterfeit and misbranded pills, introducing misbranded drugs into interstate commerce and smuggling.

Prosecutors describe Rashid as a legal permanent resident in Houston where the packages of pills allegedly were delivered to his home last year.

Rashid made an initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon. No details were immediately available Wednesday on bond or an attorney for Rashid, who was indicted Sept. 12.

Rashid faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of smuggling, plus additional time if convicted of the other counts -- including a fine up to $2 million for trafficking.
