NHL Game Summary – NY Islanders at NY Rangers

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Scott Gomez notched the game-winning goal in the second period and Henrik Lundqvist made 25 saves as the New York Rangers clipped the New York Islanders, 3-1, at Madison Square Garden.

Nigel Dawes and Fredrik Sjostrom also scored for the Rangers, who won for just the second time in their last 10 games. Chris Drury added assists on all three goals.

Mark Streit got the lone goal for the Islanders, who have dropped six of seven. Yann Danis took the loss despite 35 stops.

A rare Rangers power-play score staked the home team to a one-goal edge, as Gomez nailed a shot which dribbled through Danis 7:26 into the second period. Drury picked up the primary assist on the score, as the club posted just their second man-advantage goal in their last 37 attempts.

Despite failing to convert on a power-play chance when Isles defenseman Chris Campoli was sent off for interference with 3:14 left in regulation, Sjostrom outhustled an Isles defender to a loose puck and hit the empty net with seven seconds to play.

Dawes gave the Blueshirts a 1-0 lead, taking a Drury feed and beating Danis over the shoulder with a wrister 5:37 into the contest, then Streit evened things with a one-timer off a dish from Blake Comeau at 8:24.
