Tuesday's NBA Guide: Hawks-Lakers, Bonner Takes MSG and a Jersey Switch in OKC

HEADLINER
Atlanta at L.A. Lakers, 10:30PM ET

Mike Bibby returns to the scene of the crime. Few players have had their career so inextricably linked to another team like Bibby's NBA life has been with the Lakers. At his peak, he sparred with Derek Fisher and Kobe Bryant on the world's greatest stage. When his chariot turned into a pumpkin, the Lakers tried to pry him from Sacramento for the low, low price of Kwame Brown. Quite a roller coaster, that.

But L.A. didn't end up with Bibby -- Atlanta did. And thank goodness, because (though he never gets mentioned with the Chauncey Billupses) Bibby really makes the Hawks sing. Value is relative at its core, and Bibby's relative value to Atlanta is extremely high. Without him, they'd be one of the middling sons hoping for something between the good fortune of a generous trade and a miracle. Hell, a year ago the Hawks were a middling son hoping for something between the good fortune of a generous trade and a miracle. As it turns out, the trade for turned out rather generous.

The trade for Pau Gasol came off closer to a miracle, given the universal disdain for Memphis' role in L.A.'s Western pennant. But we can't all rely on the divine, and Billy Knight (Billy Knight!) did well for his soon-to-be former team. All the good and true Laker hater can do at this point is cheer for Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, Joe Johnson and, yes, Bibby. Ka-kaw!

Matt Watson will be attending this game for FanHouse. Antonio McDyess will be starting for the Pistons.
