Paige McPherson

Country: USA
Sport: Taekwondo
Date of Birth: 10/01/1990
First Olympics: 2012, London

After a taste of Olympic action in London, where she walked away with a bronze medal, Paige McPherson will be seeking another medal at the Rio Games after advancing through U.S. Olympic trials and winning the Pan American Qualifying Tournament. Half-African American and half-Filipino, the welterweight (67kg/148 lbs) known as “McFierce” was one of five children adopted by her parents in South Dakota. She grew up with a diverse group of siblings that included an older brother, Evan, who was Korean. She watched as Evan participated in Taekwondo, and when she was six years old, Paige – who had been a dancer – followed in his footsteps by taking up the sport and ultimately carved out a career that has brought her to new heights.
