Back to Chad: Ochocinco to Change Name Back to Johnson

Bengals receiver played better under his given name

NFL and reality TV star Chad Ochocinco is going back to the name on his birth certificate.

The outspoken Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver told ESPN he will soon answer to Chad Johnson, the name on his jersey from 2001-07, when he was one of the league's most electrifying pass catchers.

"I've done enough with Ocho Cinco," Ocho, er, Johnson told the sports network's Trey Wingo on a phone call.

The 33-year-old Johnson began calling himself Ochocinco in 2006, based on his jersey number, 85. Two years later, he changed it officially.

Ochocinco's knack for self-promotion kicked in just as his on the field performance was fading. He made it to last year's final four on "Dacing with The Stars" and then got his own reality TV show on VH1 called "Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch," in which he sifted through a gaggle of women competing to be his girlfriend.

Last season was a disappointing one for Ochocinco and his tea. The receiver caught just four touchdown passes as his team posted a 4-12 record.
