Mets Devoured 103 Cheesesteaks During April Game: Report

The Mets may not be first in the NL East standings, but the team cemented itself atop another leaderboard after downing more than 100 cheesesteaks during a visit to Philadelphia last month.

The Mets say they ate a record 103 sandwiches while waiting in the visiting-team clubhouse during a rain-delayed game against the Phillies on April 30, reports the Star-Ledger. The Mets’ performance smashes the previous record, somewhere in the 80s.

Teams visiting Philadelphia have competed with one another to see which one can eat more of the city’s signature sandwiches between the start of batting practice and two hours after the end of the game, the Star Ledger reports.

The Mets originally planned to eat two cheesesteaks per person, but several of the players helped pitch in by eating more sandwiches over the 10-hour period.
