NHL Last Night: Return of Sid the Kid

Petr Sykora and Kris Letang each had two goals, and Sidney Crosby got back into action with a goal and two assists in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 6-2 victory over the New York Rangers on Wednesday night.

Jordan Staal added a goal and an assist for the Penguins, who weren't sure if Crosby would play until the morning skate. He missed last weekend's All-Star game because of a sore knee. Pittsburgh scored five goals in the third period against All-Star goalie Henrik Lundqvist to break open a 1-1 game.

NHL scoring leader Evgeni Malkin added two assists, and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 32 shots for Pittsburgh, which also beat the Rangers at home on Jan. 18.

Nikolai Zherdev and Marc Staal scored for the Rangers, 5-2-1 in their past eight games. New York's other regulation loss in that span was the 3-0 defeat in Pittsburgh 10 days earlier.

Flames 5, Sabres 2
Michael Cammalleri stayed hot through the All-Star break and scored three more goals to lift Calgary over Buffalo.

Cammalleri has scored eight times during a four-game goal streak, giving him 25 overall and moving him past Jarome Iginla for the team lead. He has 11 goals and two assists during a seven-game point streak.

Todd Bertuzzi and Dion Phaneuf also scored for the Flames, who have won six of eight overall and nine of 10 at home.

Drew Stafford and Tim Connolly scored for Buffalo, 2-2 during a season-high six-game road swing. The Sabres won 10-2 at Edmonton on Tuesday.

Blackhawks 3, Ducks 2
Nikolai Khabibulin made 36 saves, and Jonathan Toews' second-period goal was the difference in Chicago's narrow win against Anaheim.

The victory was the Blackhawks' second in 10 games in Anaheim, and their first since a shootout victory on Nov. 17, 2006.

Toews scored early in the second, after teammates Patrick Kane and Adam Burish had given Chicago a 2-1 lead in the first.

Bobby Ryan and Travis Moen scored for the Ducks.

Predators 5, Canucks 3
Martin Erat, Jason Arnott and J.P. Dumont scored power-play goals during a six-minute span, and Nashville overcame a two-goal deficit to beat slumping Vancouver.

David Legwand added an empty-net goal with 54.1 seconds left, but it was Nashville's 29th-ranked power play that turned the game around. The unit clicked twice in the final four minutes of the second period and again 2:01 into the third as the Predators snapped a three-game losing streak.

Finnish rookie Pekka Rinne made 27 saves, and Joel Ward also scored for Nashville, which won for the fourth time in 13 games.

Alex Burrows, Sami Salo and Ryan Johnson scored on four shots over 5½ minutes early in the second period to give the Canucks a 3-1 lead.
