Coach K, Your Crow Is Getting Cold

Perhaps Mike Krzyzewski should spend more time worrying about basketball and less time worrying about what the President of the United States is doing.

Krzyzewski’s Duke Blue Devils lost in to the Villanova Wildcats 77-54 in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament, much to the delight of the White House. Duke hasn't lost to Villanova in 50 years.

It’s unlikely that anyone from the Obama administration will come out and say anything to Krzyzewski, but it needs to be said: Nana nana boo boo.

Krzyzewski, you may remember, took umbrage with the president a few weeks back when Obama left the Blue Devils out of his bracket's Final Four. Coach K sparked a mini-controversy with his reaction.

"Somebody said that we're not in President Obama's Final Four, and as much as I respect what he's doing, really, the economy is something that he should focus on, probably more than the brackets," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Obama gave Krzyzewski a pass for the comments --- which were actually said with a smile.

"Coach K, I think, is a great coach. And you know, Reggie Love, my assistant, played for Coach K. And so it's not surprising. I didn't pick him to go to the finals. Look he's a competitive guy, I just don't think they've got the inside game to go all the way. But I look forward to him proving me wrong," the president said.

Krzyzewski didn’t prove him wrong, and it was the Blue Devils lack of an inside game that doomed them: Villanova out rebounded Duke 49-34.

But coach K, already the winningest coach in tournament history, did become the all-time leader in NCAA games coached with 93 — one more than Dean Smith, though the current format with six full rounds has only been in place since 1985.

As for the president’s bracket, well, it actually took a hit Thursday night. The president had Memphis going to the Final Four, but they were ousted by Missouri Thursday in a 102-91 loss.

Three of the president’s final four picks are still intact, however, including his championship prediction of UNC vs. Louisville. Obama, who filled out his bracket with ESPN is now ranked 2,538,845th out of the more than five million fans who entered sport site’s tournament challenge.
