A while back, our own Patrice Evans pitched a few ideas for a rumored sitcom starring former Giants star Michael Strahan. The executives at FOX must have thought Patrice's ideas were too high-concept, sadly, but we'll still get a chance to clutch our sides at Number 92's comedic stylings. His pilot is a go, according to Variety, and will be in consideration for a spot on the network's fall lineup.
It will be called "Brothers," and will star Strahan as a former pro football player. While it might not be a wise move to stretch such a neophyte thespian, he'll be supported by veteran character actor Darryl "Chill" Mitchell, who will play Strahan's wheelchair-bound brother, giving rise to the not all that creative title. Mitchell, who was on "Veronica's Closet" and in the film "Galaxy Quest," was in a motorcycle accident in 2001 that left him paralyzed.
Will producers steal any real-life situations from Strahan to provide fodder for the stories? Perhaps the brothers will have a spat about how late Mitchell is staying out at night, which leads to Strahan placing a tracking device on his wheelchair. We'll get a few laughs and then we'll learn a lesson about how we've got to trust our loved ones by giving them space to live their own lives.
Or maybe Howie Long will join his Sunday morning cohort for an episode that also features Teri Hatcher, allowing the co-stars to reenact their seminal Radio Shack commercials of the past.
One good sign for the show is that Mitch Hurwitz, creator of "Arrested Development," is one of the producers. If Strahan is doing magic with "The Final Countdown" in the background, well, that sounds like something worth a look.
