Mets Retain Coaching Staff, Only Players Left To Change

With most of Mets management coming back, change must come through player personnel.

coming off two consecutive years with late-season meltdowns the Mets have have chosen to bring back most of their coachign staff. Returning for hopefully-not-more of the same: hitting coach Howard Johnson, pitching coach Dan warthen, and the Sandy Alomar father-son package off the value menu.

This means along with General Manager Omar Minaya, their manager, Jerry Manuel, most of management has been retained..  Of the brain trust in place at the end of 2008 only bullpencoach Guy Conti, third base coach Luis Aguayo, and first base coach Ken Oberkfell will not be returning for redemption in 2009.

Now there's not an inherent problem with this.  Under Jerry manuel, septemper collapse notwithstanding, the team went 54-38.  But at the same time, for a team that is under a lot ofp ressure to make fans feel like 2009 won't be a repeat of 2007 and 2008, it strikes as a little odd.

One hing we can say for certain now, if you choose to keep the management in place, ten you better do somethign about the roster.  has to do something to make fans feel good about a new season in a new stadium,
