The Carnegie Deli has created a towering new sandwich for one of the newest New York Knicks, and the most important ingredient is, of course, the bacon.

"Because hopefully he'll bring home the bacon to New York," said Sandy Levine, owner of the famed Manhattan eatery.

Levine said the deli hopes to feed the city's excitement about the Knicks. The sandwich starts with a traditional foundation of pastrami and corned beef, then gets interesting with strips of bacon and a pile of salami.

"It's a spicy meat -- we want to spice up the city," Levine said.

There's also a drizzle of Russian dressing, as a nod to the rivalry across the river with the Nets and billionaire owner Mikhail Prokhorov.

The deli began offering the 'Melo on Tuesday afternoon and said it had sold about 70 sandwiches by midday Wednesday.

One customer was former Gov. David Paterson, who stopped by to sample it a few hours before Anthony was to make his first appearance on court with the team.

"I ate as much of it as I could," Paterson said.

"Not since the days of Patrick Ewing has professional basketball been this exciting in the city," he added.
