Leah Smith comes from an athletic family: All three siblings swam for their universities -- Leah at the University of Virginia -- and her dad was a collegiate pole vaulter. Plus, Smith’s great uncle, Bill Conn, was the World Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion, and her great-grandfather Jimmy Smith was an infielder on the 1919 World Series Champion Cincinnati Reds. She finished second to Katie Ledecky in the 400m and 800m freestyle events at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Smith, who will graduate from UVA in 2017, was the 2015 NCAA champion in the 500y and 1650y freestyle events. She will race the 4x200m freestyle relay in Rio.
