Anyone who has listened to John Sterling call a Yankees game on the radio is familiar with his little catchphrases. "The Yankees win, theeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Yankees win" and "It is high, it is far, it is gone" are probably the best known, but he's got his go-to calls for home runs by most of the Yankee faithful.
It started with "Bern baby Bern" for Bernie Williams, there's "Robinson Cano, dontcha know," and he's got some whole song and dance about a text message being on the mark when Mark Teixeira goes yard. For Alex Rodriguez, Sterling has conjured up "It's an A-Bomb...for A-Rod," which he must have been particularly in the mood to use last night. It Is High, It Is Far, It Is ... Caught, a Yankee blog, captured the audio evidence and set it to a YouTube.
Nice save there at the end when he finally realized that it was Hideki Matsui at the plate, but this clip is just about everything wrong with Sterling in a nutshell. He's much more concerned with spitting out his trademark phrases than he is with getting the facts straight or calling a game that you can actually follow if you're stuck somewhere without a telecast of the game.
