Mets Pitcher Jacob deGrom May Cut His Long Hair After World Series

Even if he wins Wednesday night's Game 2 matchup against the Royals, Jacob deGrom said it might be the end of the road for his flowing locks.

The Mets' ace rightie said Tuesday that he was probably going to cut off his signature shoulder-length hair after the World Series, according to the MLB's Cut4 blog.

The impending haircut came up when reporters asked who had better hair: him or fellow long-maned pitcher Johnny Cueto, who is starting Game 2 for Kansas City.

"I think mine is gone at the end of the year, so I'll give that award to him," he said. "It's driving me nuts. I've got to get rid of it."

DeGrom's has kept his hair long since he made his major-leauge debut in 2014, so the new 'do could be a shock to some Mets fans who are used to using the Twitter hashtag #HairWeGo ahead of his starts. He did keep his hair shorter during his time in the minor leagues, however.

Game 2 could be deGrom's last start -- and by extension his long locks' -- unless the series drags out to a game 6 or 7 or if manager Terry Collins decides to start him on short rest before that.
