Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired veteran winger Bill Guerin from the New York Islanders prior to Wednesday's trade deadline. The Islanders received a conditional draft pick in return.
Guerin signed a two-year deal with New York in the summer of 2007 and was named captain of the Islanders just prior to the start of the 2007-08 campaign.
The 38-year-old has 16 goals and 36 points in 61 games this season after recording 44 points (23 goals, 21 assists) a year ago.
Guerin has recorded 799 points on 403 goals and 396 assists over 1,168 career games. He was selected by New Jersey with the fifth overall pick in the 1989 draft and has played with the Devils, Edmonton, Boston, Dallas, San Jose and St. Louis.
The draft pick is a fifth-rounder for now, but could become a fourth-round selection if the Pens make the playoffs. If Pittsburgh gets past the first round of the postseason -- and Guerin plays in more than half of the Penguins' playoff games -- the Isles will get a third-round pick.
