Former NFL Running Back Jahvid Best Races Usain Bolt in Olympic Debut

Former Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best made his Olympic debut on Saturday, running the 100m in Rio. He became the first track and field athlete to compete at an Olympics after playing in the NFL.

Racing in the same heat as Usain Bolt, Best clocked 10.39 seconds. Best finished seventh in his heat, and will not advance to the semifinals. Overall, he finished tied for 54th out of 69 runners. 

Best, whose father was born in Saint Lucia, holds duals citizenship and competes for Saint Lucia. With a personal best of 10.16 seconds, Best would not have made the U.S. Olympic team.

On Tuesday, New England Patriots safety Nate Ebner became the first active NFL player to compete at a Summer Olympics. Ebner helped the U.S. men’s rugby team finish ninth at the Rio Olympics.
