Considered by many to be among the top women’s basketball players of all-time, there is not much Diana Taurasi has not accomplished in the sport. As a senior in high school, the 6-foot guard was named Naismith Player of the Year and earned MVP honors in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-America Game. Playing for Team USA coach Geno Auriemma at the University of Connecticut, Taurasi was a two-time Naismith Player of the Year recipient, two-time NCAA tournament MVP, and a three-time NCAA champion. Taurasi , the No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft, earned MVP honors in 2009 while leading the Phoenix Mercury to the second of her three WNBA Championships. The Calif. native is the only women’s basketball player to be paid by her European club to sit out the WNBA season for precautionary reasons.
