Jaromir Jagr moved into seventh place in career NHL goals and Martin Brodeur made 29 saves to lead the Devils to a 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.
The 41-year-old Jagr got his 695th goal in his 1,438th career game, moving him past Mark Messier. On Saturday, he passed former Pittsburgh Penguins' teammate Mario Lemieux for seventh place in points with 1,724.
Goals less than three minutes apart early in the second period from Eric Gelinas and Adam Henrique were the difference as the Devils extended their points streak to five games and picked up a win against a team ahead of them in the Eastern Conference. Dainius Zubrus added an empty-net goal on an assist from Jagr.
Max Pacioretty scored for Montreal, which was coming off one of its best games of the season in a 2-1 win over Chicago, but could not duplicate that effort. The Canadiens went 0 for 3 with the man advantage, a fifth-straight game with no power-play goals.
New Jersey scored more than two goals in a game for the first time in six outings and the second time in their last 11.
Pacioretty struck first for Montreal at the 7:00 mark of the first as he fired a wrist shot past Brodeur on a rush for his 20th of the season.
Jagr got it back with 2:37 left in the period when he got around Josh Gorges and used his long reach to put the puck in off the far post.

Gelinas scored from the point on a power play 1:20 into the second period and Henrique got his sixth goal in the last 10 games from a scramble in the Montreal crease at 4:02.
The crowd of 21,273 at the Bell Centre booed late in the second period when what appeared to be a Brendan Gallagher goal was disallowed by video review for inadvertently kicking the puck.
The Canadiens failed to penetrate the Devils' tenacious checking in the third period.
