It's tough losing to the Clippers, especially when you' re supposed to be on a championship team.
It can even drive some to drink.
Maybe that's why allegedly intoxicated Boston Celtics guard Gabe Pruitt was arrested in Hollywood early Thursday, just hours after losing to the Clippers 93-91 at the Staples Center.
Pruitt, 22, was taken into custody about 3 a.m. after officers pulled over a black Mercedes-Benz S550 that he was driving near Sunset Boulevard and Wilcox Avenue, said Officer April Harding of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations office. He failed a sobriety test, police said, after he was pulled over for being stopped at a green light, having a conversation with people in the next car.
Pruitt was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI at the LAPD's Hollywood Division Jail, with bail set at $5,000, Harding said. He was released at 8:31 a.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported. No court date was set.
Pruitt apologized after his release and issued a statement that he used poor judgment and was, in his words, "really disappointed" in himself.
Not to make excuses, but the Clippers caught the Celtics at the end of a tough six-game road trip and pulled out the win. Pruitt played six minutes and had three points in the game, numbers that are fairly close to his season averages for the Celtics. Lack of production from Pruitt and other guards off the bench is the reason the Celtics are reaching out to Stephon Marbury in talks, despite the fact Marbury hasn't been on an NBA court in 13 months.

The 6-foot-4 Pruitt attended Centennial High School in Compton and graduated from Westchester, played college ball at USC from 2004-2007 and waschosen by the Celtics as its 32nd overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft. He'saveraging 2.3 points per game.
