NHL Game Summary – Los Angeles at NY Islanders

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Jack Johnson was the only player to score in the shootout, as the Los Angeles Kings took a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders.

After the first five players in the shootout were unsuccessful, Johnson skated in and made a little move to his right. It got Islanders goaltender Yann Danis going in the same direction, which allowed Johnson to shift quickly back to his left and tuck a shot into the net for the win.

Alexander Frolov, Wayne Simmonds and Anze Kopitar each lit the lamp once in regulation for the Kings, while Jonathan Quick made 22 saves in the win. Los Angeles wrapped up its five-game road trip with a 4-1-0 record, having won the final four contests.

Andy Hilbert, Doug Weight and Tim Jackman had a goal apiece for the Islanders, while Danis stopped 36 shots in the loss. New York lost for the third consecutive game, having lost each game by a single goal.

Simmonds got the Kings on the scoreboard just 2:08 into the game, but the Islanders quickly evened the contest. On a rush, Bill Guerin left a drop pass for Weight, who slapped it past Quick at 4:53.

Jackman tallied just 4:20 into the middle period, and after Kopitar got his 16th goal of the season just 67 seconds later, Hilbert gave New York a 3-2 lead just short of the midway point.

The Islanders maintained the lead into the third, but Frolov's team-leading 22nd goal of the season on the power play evened up the score once again.

The clubs had several chances as time winded down, from rushes and counter- rushes, but neither could crack the scoreboard and the game went to overtime. The Kings got a power play with 1:20 remaining when Guerin was called for hooking on an LA rush after his pass was intercepted. Los Angeles had several quality chances near the end, including when Dustin Brown had the puck on the doorstep in the closing moments. But Danis kept the puck out of the net and the game went to a shootout.
