Corzine: Obama Victory Good for Garden State

Corzine said he plans to discuss the economy with the Obama transition team

New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine says Barack Obama's victory is good for the country and for the Garden State.

Corzine says an Obama presidency and Democratic gains in Congress mean it will be easier for states like New Jersey to move their agenda forward. He says Obama shares similar views on the need for children's health care, clean energy and aid for the middle class.

Speaking after the victory celebration for New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who was re-elected to a record fifth term in the U.S. Senate, Corzine said he plans to discuss the economy with the Obama transition team soon.

Corzine campaigned for Obama and served as an informal economic adviser in the final weeks of the race against John McCain.

The governor says he expects to continue to offer advice as chairman of the National Governors' Association economic development committee.
