5 Races Still Undecided

2 New York races among them

Republicans gained at least 61 House seats in the Nov. 2 election, but they are positioned to win more. While Democratic incumbents hold leads in two of the five still-contested races, they trail in three others, with thousands of ballots still to be counted.

Here is POLITICO's list of House undecided races:

Democrats Trailing

New York 25th District

Republican Ann Marie Buerkle’s lead over Democratic Rep. Dan Maffei has been narrowed to 259 votes, as Onondaga County completed its tally of absentee ballots. Still outstanding from the final count: a batch of absentee ballots in Wayne County.

New York 1st District

With the counting of absentee ballots completed in six districts, Democratic Rep. Tim Bishop has picked up 353 votes – narrowing Republican Randy Altschuler’s lead to just 30 votes. Local election officials are continuing to count absentee votes in Brookhaven.

Texas 27th District

Republican Blake Farenthold continues to hold a 792-vote lead over Democratic Rep. Solomon Ortiz. Local election officials have yet to complete a manual recount in Cameron County.

Democrats Leading

California 11th District

Republican David Harmer has yet to concede to Democratic Rep. Jerry McNerney, whom he trails by more than 1,700 votes.

California 20th District

Democratic Rep. Jim Costa has maintained a 2,422- vote lead over Republican Andy Vidak. Vidak has yet to concede.
