Oh No! It's More Snow

A sloppy mix of snow, sleet and rain kicks off the week

It's baaack, but it won't last long this time.

The tri-state woke up on President's Day to a sloppy and slippery mix of rain, sleet and snow as winter made its encore Monday morning.

After a brief taste of spring this weekend, Mother Nature restored the area to more normal weather for mid February, bringing snow that began in the early morning hours Monday.

NBCNew York Forecaster Chris Cimino predicted an average accumulation of two to four inches, with lesser amounts south of New York City and about four to six inches north of Route 287.  As warmer temperatures creep back later Monday, sleet and rain will replace the snow.

Snow  fell at a steady pace early Monday in places like Morristown New Jersey, where plow crews were called in early and in Tarrytown, New York.  But the snow should begin to taper off and end by early afternoon in most areas.

It did made for some challenging driving but since it's a holiday, there's less traffic with schools, and courts closed.  One car in Mastic Long Island did lose control and slammed into a pole on icy Victoria Drive.

In New Jersey, the National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, Union and Sussex counties, with 2 to 6 inches of snow possible. These advisories will be in effect from midnight Sunday through Monday morning.

Southern areas of the state could see some light snow accumulation late Monday and early Tuesday as another system moves through.

Then Tuesday, it's back to freezing temperatures, with a high of only 30 degrees and a low of 20, said Cimino.

All this makes the mid-60s enjoyed on Friday seem like a distant memory.
