Simon Cowell RSVPs Regrets To Obama's Dinner Invite

Most people would leap at the chance to have dinner with President Obama – but not Simon Cowell.

During President Obama's appearance on "The Tonight Show" last week, he joked about the tenor of Washington D.C., saying, "Washington is a little like 'American Idol,' except everybody is Simon Cowell."

On Monday, Simon appeared on Leno and responded to his name being dropped by the President.

"I think what he was trying to say was Washington has become more intelligent," the snarky "Idol" judge quipped.

Simon went on to joke that Obama wanted some face time with him.

"I tried to have dinner with him last week, but I wasn't available," he told Jay and fellow "Idol" pals, Ryan Seacrest and Randy Jackson.

"He wanted to have dinner but our diaries didn't quite match," Simon explained. "He wanted to do 8, I was free at 9. We just didn't quite connect."

Despite their conflicting schedules, Simon said a future dinner with the President was always a possibility.

"But I said, 'Any time I'm in Washington,'" Simon added with a laugh.
