Sneeze Causes Multi-Vehicle Crash, Shutting Down I-93

A sneezing driver caused a fiery crash involving multiple vehicles that temporarily shut down a section of Interstate 93 north in New Hampshire on Wednesday.

The accident, which involved two tractor-trailers, occurred around 11:30 a.m. on I-93 north in New Hampton, according to state police. When officers arrived both tractor-trailers were on fire.

Photos and video from the scene showed heavy black smoke billowing from the side of the road.

I-93 north was closed at the accident scene for about 90 minutes, and heavy delays were reported as traffic was diverted off the highway. The travel lane remained closed for several hours until the vehicles could be removed from the scene.

A state police investigation found that one of the tractor-trailers had broken down and was parked in the right breakdown lane of the highway when the driver of the second truck sneezed and crossed across the fog line, hitting the parked vehicle. Both trailers were empty at the time, but a large fire ensued as a result of the impact.

One person was treated for minor injuries, according to state police.

The driver of the second vehicle, Andre Cassidy, 61, of Windsor, Quebec, was cited by state police for crossing a solid line.
