New Zealand Offers Prayers For Earthquake Victims

Church services were held Sunday in New Zealand following last week’s devastating earthquake that had so far left 146 dead and over 200 still missing. The hardest-hit buildings were churches in the city of Christchurch that despite suffering damage managed to hold mass. Prime Minister John Key said that the earthquake “may be New Zealand’s single most tragic event,” compared to a 1931 tremor that killed 256, BBC News reported. Key requested that a two-minute moment of silence be observed on Tuesday.
